Small Income at Home Ideas?

Question by Nikki: Small Income at Home Ideas?
I need some ideas to make a small income (around $ 20,000) at home. I will be having a baby next year, and I just don’t think a full-time job is worth missing out on all of my baby’s firsts for. Any ideas? I was thinking about Tupperware\Avon, but I don’t know if realistically those things sell if you don’t have a lot of friends. Plus, I don’t know how reliable that is . I also have an Etsy shop for my crafts, but I’ve only made a couple sales so far and it also isn’t too reliable.
My background is in administrative and processing work. I work full-time at an insurance company doing this, as well. I also have writing skills , customer service skills, and a print journalism degree.
One other thing; I’m not really looking to try to make money of my crafts anymore. I tried that and they don’t sell (I was selling wallets, jewelry, and home decorations out of recycled materials).

I think it’d help if you told us what job history, skills, education you have. There are all sorts of work at home options for people with different backgrounds but without additional info it might be hard for people to answer.
The problem with Avon is that you have to preorder so you might be out whatever you don’t sell. Maybe babysitting? 20K is a lot of money to make off of crafts. I doubt you can make that much unless you are doing something really special and have good marketing options.
UPDATE:
OK – I don’t know how to get into this but I have a friend who worked as a freelance writer after her baby. She didn’t do fancy stuff like writing novels or journalism but instead got into corporate and company writing. Like, for example, she wrote the descriptions on tourist brochures and the blurbs beneath clothing items for sale on REI website- that sort of thing. She got paid per job and it added up to quite a bit. I don’t know how someone gets into that sort of thing, but you can start Googling and see what you come up with.
Another idea is insurance sales. If you sell for the companies that offer insurance policies to individual buyers rather than the giant companies, then you do small time sales where you meet one on one with individuals looking for coverage, explain the policies to them and you get a commission. You could look for companies that service your area. I know that isn’t entirely work from home since you’ll have to go out and meet people sometimes but most of the work is over the phone and on computer.
Good Luck!

Hi Nikki,
I would suggest the company listed in the resource box. You don’t have to put up any money upfront, no merchandise to carry and you will help people and friends get money back from shopping online. You can call or email me if you have any questions.
I think this might be a good fit for you, especially due to your customer service and writing background.
Good Luck!

i think you can try the online sale. It dont need much time but can make some profits.
As for the items, you can choose some local or season hotsale items, such as ugg boots(which is hotsale now in us and uk)
